2608397 - Extra Spaces in Field Become &#160 After Upload via Migration Tool

Symptom

You have executed a migration and noticed that special characters &#160 were migrated instead of spaces in certain fields.

Environment

  • SAP Business ByDesign.

Cause

Since a space at the end of a name is irrelevant, the system interprets the space in its HTML number (i.e. &#160). The same occurs if a space is added after the name and before a bracket; since a name cannot have a bracket, the system interprets the space before the bracket in its HTML number as well.

Resolution

In the migrated record, the solution is to simply edit the field and remove the &#160 from its value. In order to avoid this on further migrations, remove any unnecessary spaces from the template and this should no longer occur.

For larger datasets you may consider to utilize Excel's Find & Replace functionality as follows:

  1. Select affected cells.
  2. CTRL+H to display find/replace dialog.
  3. Find: ALT+0160 (Hold the ALT key and enter numbers via numeric keypad).
  4. Leave the Replace field blank.
