Symptom
This KBA is simply to clarify the purpose of the entitlement xml file that gets pulled over to LMS in the Connector zip file and also to clarify some points on initiation mode.
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Learning Management System (LMS)
Resolution
Entitlement File
The entitlement file (entitlement.xml) should always get sent over in the Skillsoft connector job (regardless if the intiation mode is set to “ALL” or “DELTA”).
The only time you will not see the entitlement file is when no items are imported or maybe when files get manually imported from FTP and not via a (SOAP) web service.
Here are some additional FAQs:
- What is the purpose of the Entitlement File? The Entitlement file’s only purpose is to tell LMS if a Skillsoft item is “active”, “inactive” or has been “modified”.
- Why is the entitlement xml file required? This is the only way the LMS knows what item(s) to activate, modify or inactivate.
- What happens if the entitlement record is missing for an item in the entitlement file? Any item that is present in customer_catalog file should also be present in entitlement file. Otherwise the item will get deactivated.
- What if the entitlement file is not pulled over from Skillsoft? If entitlement file is not sent over, any item included in the catalog file will be deactivated on LMS side.
Initiation Mode (Full or Delta Feeds)
It is important that if you (the customer) has more than one LMS utilising Skillsoft Connector that only one environment (Production) has its initiation mode set to “DELTA”. All other lower environments should have initiation mode set to “ALL” or be switched off. Please take note of warning on section 6.2 of the attached Skillsoft Workbook document:
“If you enable the delta feed in a lower environment (for example in staging), then Skillsoft remembers what was sent to staging and does not send the same to production. You therefore miss record in your feed. For this reason, do not enable the delta feed in any environment except for production.”
