2613297 - QUIESCE DATABASE: Waiting for at least one transaction in 'master' database to complete - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • A QUIESCE DATABASE fails on master database due to an open transaction on spid xxx:

01:37:31.13 server  QUIESCE DATABASE: Waiting for at least one transaction (owner spid xxx) in the 'master' database to complete. Retry count: 1.
...
01:38:03.11 server  QUIESCE DATABASE: Waiting for at least one transaction (owner spid xxx) in the 'master' database to complete. Retry count: 17.

  • The process that started the QUIESCE, spid yyy, hits error 2276 and is aborted:

01:38:05.11 server  Error: 2276, Severity: 16, State: 1
01:38:05.11 server  Process yyy is aborted by 'QUIESCE DATABASE as transactions in the 'master' database did not finish within the prescribed time limit.

  • The issue tends to be (very) sporadic, most of the time the QUIESCE succeeds
