2613482 - Error 17523 when executing sp_dropsegment - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Trying to drop some space from one segment but it is not getting dropped in one database. The execution of sp_dropsegment fails with error 17523:

Msg 17523, Level 16, State 1:
Server 'ASE', Procedure 'sp_dropsegment', Line 342:
Segment 'default' does not reference device 'device1'.
(return status = 1)

  • Database size is not reduced.
  • Database status went to mixed log and data after dropping logsegment, but it was not mixed log and data before dropping the segment.
  • The requirement is to remove that logsegment space.
