2619135 - HTTP response 500 is returned when doing connection test to backend ECC system

HTTP destinations to backend ECC system is configured in NWA, the URL is http://<host_ECC>:<port_ECC>/sap/xi/engine?type=entry. When doing the connection test by clicking "Ping Destination", the following error is shown:

Error during ping operation: Ping not successful! Received HTTP response 500

If you run the URL directly via the browser, the message "EMPTY_HTTP_REQUEST_RECEIVED" is returned:
