2621931 - sp_who fails with Msg 1526 and sp_sysmon with Msg 12043 - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Execution of sp_who is failing with the following message:

Msg 1526, Level 17, State 3:
Server 'server_name', Line 1:
Sort failure. The configure size for data cache () is not sufficient to handle
the sort buffers (14) requested. Please reconfigure the data cache or sort buffers and try the command again.

  • Restart ASE helps but after some time the issue appears again.
  • From ASE errolog we can see some stack traces at the same time the error 1526 occurred with the following message:

Invalid column length: 18. Value must be between 0 and 4 at offset -2 for 'all-pages' row with minimum row length of 22.

  • There are other stack traces related to execution of sp_sysmon ending in the 1526 errors.
  • When executing sp_sysmon it returns the following messages:

sp_sysmon '00:05:00','cache wizard'

Msg 12043, Level 16, State 1:
Server 'server_name', Procedure 'sp_sysmon', Line 269:
The monitoring table counters are already frozen. The freeze operation was not necessary and was not performed.
ASE is terminating this process.

CT-LIBRARY error:
 ct_send(): network packet layer: internal Client Library error: State error: trying to write when connection is expecting a read.
CT-LIBRARY error:
 ct_cancel(): network packet layer: internal net library error: Net-Library operation terminated due to disconnect
