Symptom

Error while importing catalog file.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Product Portfolio work center
  2. Choose Catalogs view
  3. Click on Open catalog template file
  4. Enter all necessary details
  5. Click on Autofill ID
  6. Click on Generate
  7. Click on Save and Save it on your Desktop
  8. Again go to Product portfolio work center
  9. Choose Catalogs view
  10. Click on button New
  11. Choose Supplier Catalog
  12. Enter catalog name and Supplier ID
  13. Click on Browse and Choose same file that you saved earlier

Cause

The format of the field values is incorrect, possibly because the details were copied and pasted from a source with a different format.

If you are using a Mac machine to generate the text file, it might be created in a non-Unicode format. During the import phase, the system checks if the text file is non-Unicode, and if so, this could be one of the reasons for the error.

Additionally, using an offline version of the template may also lead to the same error.

Resolution

Always enter the details manually in the template for at least the first row. After that, you can refer to the format of each cell and fill in the subsequent rows accordingly.
