2629935 - Error when trying to access hive tables from PowerBI using ODBC - SAP Cloud Platform BDS

Symptom

  • Using 3rd party app Microsoft PowerBI trying to access HIVE database tables through hiveserver2 with Altiscale (Simba) ODBC driver that Big Data Services (BDS) provides gives the following error when trying to load the table:

  • Altiscale ODBC Altiscale (Simba) ODBC driver is setup correctly and a test connection succeeds in "Windows ODBC Data Sources Utility".
  • Able to see the tables in the PowerBI tool during ODBC data connection setup, the error occurs when trying to fetch the records from a table.
