Query Parameters
The Query Parameters page is used to define the properties of the query.
- To return to Query Workspace select Edit at the top of the page and then Close.
- To clear all the configuration of a query select Edit at the top of the page and then Clear.
- To switch between a view showing the configuration of a query and a view showing the displayed results select Toggle table/summary view.
- To add new measures from the list of available measures on the left, drag the measure onto the COLUMNS bar or the ROWS bar
- To add new dimensions from the list of available dimensions on the left, drag the dimension onto the COLUMNS bar or the ROWS bar
- To add new filters from the list of available dimensions on the left, drag the dimension level onto the FILTERS bar.
Table View
In this view the results of the query are shown in table format. Results may be exported to Microsoft Excel using the Excel icon at the top right on the view.
Summary View
Measure, Column, Row, Filter and Time Context properties may be configured in this editor. To save changes you have made on this page click anywhere on the grey bar with the up arrow in the centre of it. This grey bar shows at the base of the view that you are editing in.
Measures
- To edit measure properties select Edit in the blue Measure bar.
- To remove a measure select the Remove link next to that measure.
- If multiple measures appear in a query the order that they appear in the results may be adjusted by using the up or down arrows.
- To see the properties of an individual measure click on its name.
Columns/Rows
- To edit the properties of a dimension select Edit next to that dimension.
- To remove a dimension select the Remove link next to that dimension.
- If multiple dimensions appear on columns/rows the order that they appear in the results may be adjusted by using the up or down arrows.
- To see the properties of an individual dimension click on its name.
Filters
- To remove a filter select the Remove link next to that filter.
- To see the properties of an individual filter click on its name.
Time Context
- To edit time content properties select Edit in the blue Time Context bar.
Additional Data Items
The Additional Data Items editor is used to define the alternative data sources that may be included in the query.
Positioning: This option determines whether the additional data items selected for inclusion on the query are shown on the Rows or on the Columns in the results.
Benchmarks: Benchmark values for a measure may be included in the results. Select the benchmark values you wish to include using the selection boxes. Use the Choose Benchmark button to select alternate benchmark sets.
Targets: Target values for a measure may be included in the results. Select the target values you wish to include using the selection boxes. Target values are established for measures using the Target Maintenance functionality.
Highlighting: Benchmarks and Targets highlighting will each add another row/column. The selections Inside desired range, Outside desired range, Near desired range and N/A select what data will be shown in the results. If a value is not selected to be displayed, then it will not be displayed even if a cell meets the criteria. This allows for only certain results to be highlighted.
Other: The Percentage of Total that a measure represents may be included in the results. This is the percentage value that an individual result for a measure represents as a portion of the sum of all results for that measure. This data item also takes into account the selection that was made above for Positioning. For example if the Positioning above is set to be Columns and there are three results for a measure (e.g. 1.0, 3.0 and 6.0) across a row of the table then a new Percent column will appear next to each of these results with the values 10%, 30% and 60% respectively. Similarly if the Positioning above is set to be Rows then a new Percent row will appear that calculates the Percentage of Total that an individual measure result represents as a portion of the sum of all results for that measure in a given column.
Measure Properties
The Measure editor is used to define the properties of measures that have been included in the query.
Show Measures on Rows or Columns: This option determines whether measures that have been chosen for this query are shown on the rows or on the columns in the results.
Show Measures on Major Grouping or Minor Grouping: If two or more measures are included in the query and an additional analysis dimension has been associated with these measures on rows/columns, this option determines how these measures are shown relative to this analysis dimension.
If the Major Grouping option is selected then the measures will be the primary grouping broken down by the analysis dimension as a secondary grouping. For example; Measure 1 by Analysis 1, Measure 1 by Analysis 2, ... Measure 1 by Analysis n, followed by Measure 2 by Analysis 1, Measure 2 by Analysis 2, ... Measure 2 by Analysis n.
If the Minor Grouping option is selected then the analysis dimension will be the primary grouping broken down by the measures as a secondary grouping. For example; Analysis 1 by Measure 1, Analysis 1 by Measure 2, Analysis 2 by Measure 1, Analysis 2 by Measure 2, ... Analysis n by Measure 1, Analysis n by Measure 2.
Exclude rows or columns that contain no data: Selecting this option will hide from the results generated by the query any rows or columns of data that contain no data at all. Note that rows and columns of data that contain valid "zero" results will still be shown.
Dimensions
The Row/Column editor is used to define the elements of data to be included in the query. The process of defining these elements starts with making a selection from the dimension explorer at the top of this view. Then relative to this dimension element selection, the Distance and Qualifier selectors further describe which additional elements are included in the query. The selections made are shown in a list at the base of this view.
Distance refers to the difference in depth between the dimension element selected in the explorer and the associated target element(s). For example, if you wanted to examine the items immediately below the dimension element (the child elements), then a distance of one (1) applies. Similarly, the grand-children elements are identified by a distance of two (2).
The choices on the Qualifier selector are described below.
Selected element only Include in the query only the dimension element selected in the explorer.
Selected element and all descendants to distance Include in the query the dimension element selected in the explorer plus all the elements below, down to a level specified by the distance value. A valid number must be entered in the Distance field.
All descendants to distance Include in the query all descendants of the dimension element selected in the explorer down to a level specified by the distance value. Note that the dimension element selected in the explorer is not included. A valid number must be entered in the Distance field.
All descendants at distance only Include in the query all descendants of the dimension element selected in the explorer at the level specified by the distance value. Note that the dimension element selected in the explorer is not included nor are any elements at distances between the dimension element and the specified Distance. A valid number must be entered in the Distance field.
All descendant leaf elements Include in the query only the lowest level or terminal descendants of the dimension element selected in the explorer. These elements are often referred to as the leaf elements having no 'child' elements below them. Note that the dimension element selected in the explorer is not included nor are any elements at distances between the dimension element and the leaf elements.
Selected element and all descendants Include in the query the dimension element selected in the explorer plus all the elements below to the bottom of the dimension.
All descendants Include in the query all descendants of the dimension element selected in the explorer to the bottom of the dimension. Note that the dimension element selected in the explorer is not included.
Time Context
If a time dimension has not been already specified on the rows or columns of the query then the Time Context view can be used to define specific time properties to be used in the query. If a time context is used then it behaves in a very similar fashion to applying a filter to the query.
To apply or modify the time context, make a selection from the dimension explorer at the top of this view and then select Set. To clear the context select Clear.
