Symptom

  • Error 871 followed by a stack trace appears in the ASE errorlog:

Error: 871, Severity: 20, State: 2
Process '<spid>' is trying to release a latch on buffer '0x%' (dbid: '<dbid>', pageno: '<pagid>' ) without holding a latch on the buffer.
