Symptom
What currency should show when you select "Planner Currency" View in the Compensation/Variable Pay worksheet?
Environment
- Compensation
- Variable Pay
Resolution
When selecting Planner Currency View in a variable pay worksheet, the "Planner" here means the person who opens the worksheet and not the user who the worksheet is launched for. It's by design that if you open the worksheet with a person whose currency is GBP, the Planner Currency view will be GBP regardless of the actual planners currency as can be seen with the below example:
- The currency is taken from the UDF column.
- From the below screenshot you can see the following:
- The form has been launched for "btmgr"
- btmgr's currency has been set to "cny" in the UDF column "Local_Currency_Code"
- sfadmin's currency is set to "gbp" in the UDF column "Local_Currency_Code"
- As can be seen, when sfadmin views the worksheet, the planner currency matches what is configured in the UDF
EC Integrated Templates:
For Compensation templates that have been integrated with Employee Central there are two points to note:
- Employee Local Currency is pulled from Employee Central and Not the UDF
- The Effective Date determines if the form will use the currency in Employee Central
The Effective Date that you set on a worksheet determines what data will be pulled into the Compensation Worksheet. It means that any data before the effective date set will be pulled into the worksheet or considered when the system runs its verifications on this. Any data after this date will not be included in the form.
The same verification occurs when a user tries to view the worksheet. As we have established above, the Planner Currency View displays the currency of the user opening the form, so the worksheet will verify the effective date on the form against when the Local Currency was added in Employee Central.
If the Local Currency was added in EC after the effective date in the worksheet then the worksheet will default back to the functional currency configured in the template as the system assumes no record is present for Local Currency in EC.
*If this happens you need to change the Effective Date in the Template and Relaunch Worksheets*
Best Practice would be to set the Effective date ahead of any changes you plan to make that would affect the worksheets once launched.
Note : When there is no Compensation Information maintained in EC for the planner, then the Planner Currency view also depends on the mappings done for Local currency code, Salary Type, Units per year and Currenct Salary in design worksheet of the template. The pay component or pay component group that is mapped in design worksheet will further be mapped to the currency. If there is no mapping done for the four fields in template, then the system by default chooses the Functional Currency when Planner currency View is selected in the worksheet/Executive review.
