2637923 - Error Message in Balance Carryforward

There are some postings in the year before the initial migration date, so you need to close that year in order to move forward in the next fiscal year. You are trying to perform the Balance Carryforward. However, when you perform it, the system shows you the error message below.

'Posting date YYYY-MM-DD must not be before initial migration date YYYY-MM-DD.' (YYYY-MM-DD represents Posting and Initial Migration dates)

SAP Business ByDesign.

To access the run:

1. Go to the General Ledger work center.
2. Go to Balance Carryforward view.
3. Open the Balance Carryforward run and click Log Result.
4. Go to Messages tab and you can see the error message:

'Posting date YYYY-MM-DD must not be before initial migration date YYYY-MM-DD.'

When you create a new company, the Initial Migration Date in the system is in blanc. Hence, it is possible to post in any date from Valid From maintained in the Org. Structure.

After you maintain the Initial Migration Date in the system for that company, the system only allows you to post after that date. When you try to post previously to it, the system will show the same error message from Balance Carryforward.

The reason why the system did not show the error message at the time you posted, but only in Balance Carryforward, is that at the time of the creation of the document, the Initial Migration Date was not maintained yet for the company used, so any date will be allowed within the validity of that company.

In this case, you may close the year in the legacy system. ByDesign does not allow to close any period before the Initial Migration Date maintained in the system.

If you set the wrong Posting Date for Initial Migration in the system, you can create an incident to change the Posting Date for Initial Migration from backend.
