2638173 - AlertMessage Field length increase for alertDescriptionLocalized

We are trying to set up new Alert Message Definitions. New fields in AlertMessage are not functioning as expected.     The information on these fields states: "The ‘localized header’ and ‘localized description’ fields can be used to send alert messages in different languages. If left blank, the values in the fields ‘alert header’ and ‘alert description’ are used for all languages."   But both fields are mandatory, and when trying to copy and paste the original text into these fields, it is found that alertDescriptionLocalized cannot hold the number of characters required.
