2639062 - Unknown User in Activities and Feedback - Continuous Performance Management

Symptom

"Unknown User" shows in the Activity update and Feedback tab instead of the name of the user who left the comment or provided the feedback.

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Continuous Performance Management

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Continuous Performance Management
  2. Check the Activities tab:

    Unknown User CPM.JPG

Cause

  1. The user who left the comment or feedback was already set to inactive.
  2. The user who left the comment or the user viewing the comment has no User Search and Employee Data permissions required to view the user's comment.
  3. User has Employee Export permission and target population has "Exclude Granted User from having the permission access to him/herself" enabled or User has Employee Export permission but user who left the comment or gave feedback is not part of the target population.

Resolution

  1. Inactive Users - As of b1802 (SL-2207) inactive users are shown as "Unknown User"

  2. Employee Search Permissions - For employee to be able to see other user's details and his own details (Last name, First Name, etc.), User search and User Data view permissions are necessary. You can check more information about Role-Based Permissions in Continuous Performance Management in our Guide.

  3. Employee Export Permission - When Employee Export permission is granted, the User Search permission is ignored and the system follows the Employee Export permission - the user who provided the feedback should be part of the target population of the role which contains the Employee Export permission.
  • In the current design is the Employee Export permission target population take precedence over the "User Search" permission target population.
  • When the option "Exclude Granted User from having the permission access to him/herself" in the target population of the role is enabled, the user will not have access to his own data. To resolve this, either uncheck the option Exclude Granted User from having the permission access to him/herself OR grant another permission role to the user where the user is also included in the target population.
