2658347 - Failed to Save Dashboard - Invalid Characteristic Warning Message

Symptom

You are working with a dashboard in your system and you are trying to perform changes in the dashboard, like adding a new Business Role in the Business Role Assignment, etc. However, after saving the Dashboard a warning message is raised as 'Failed to Save Dashboard - Invalid Characteristic' and the changes are not maintained.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

In order to reproduce the issue, you may follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Business Analytics work center.
  2. Go to the Design Dashboards view.
  3. Select your custom dashboard and click 'Edit'.
  4. Perform any change in the dashboard configuration.
  5. Click 'Save'.

After clicking on the 'Save' button, the warning message will be raised.

Cause

The specific warning message 'Failed to Save Dashboard - Invalid Characteristic' is raised when there are inconsistent or blank values being maintained in the 'Connections' step of the dashboard configuration. Since the characteristic selected is inconsistent or not specified, the dashboard will not be able to save properly, not maintaining the changes added.

Resolution

It is required to specify the characteristics in the dashboard connections. Please edit the dashboard and maintain the connections as required. Where characteristics were removed, please remove the connections as well.
