Symptom
- An application inserts a Japanese Shift (SJIS) character (via a bcp insert to a varchar(255) datatype) with a unicode value of 0xf9dc into a varchar(255) column.
- If the column is later updated the same character cannot be reproduced using the expected unicode literal value of 0xF9DC.
