2668518 - Diagnostics Agents on-the-fly not created: new agent <LOGICAL HOST>.<FQDN> already exists

Symptom

The Diagnostics Agents on-the-fly feature is activated in a physical host or in a virtual machine, but for some logical hosts the Diagnostics Agent on-the-fly is not created.

In the nodescontroller.log you find the following error:

Cloning agent ...

virtual host selected : <LOGICAL HOST>.<FQDN>

!! Error !! new agent <LOGICAL HOST>.<FQDN> already exists.

Task completed with status ERROR (100)

[Thread[ExRun:NodesController_1,5,NodesController:ExecTG]] Error [NodesControllerJob] Diagnostics agent node on host <LOGICAL HOST>.<FQDN> cannot be added due to an error.
[EXCEPTION]
com.sap.smd.nodes.controller.NodesMaintenanceException: Command executed: /usr/sap/DAA/SMDA98/script/smdsetup.sh installer addagent virtualhost=<LOGICAL HOST>.<FQDN> servername=<HOST NAME> keep=connection sid=DAA inr=98 / command returned:

You may also notice that the folder that should be created for the agent mentioned in the error above is not complete, it may be empty or have just the temp folder within it.
