2669522 - Error: 'Inventory in the logistics area is not available' While Confirming a Returns Pick Task

Symptom

During the confirmation of a task of type Returns Pick, when you choose Propose Quantities and Logistics Areas button, the system shows an error 'Inventory in the logistics area is not available'.

However, in the Stock Overview it is showing that there is enough stock available.

Reproducing the Issue

1. Go to Outbound Logistics work center.
2. Select Task Control view.
3. Select task XXX and choose Confirm. (XXX represents the task ID).
4. In the task confirmation screen choose Propose Logistic Area and Quantities button.
5. System does not propose Logistic Area and Actual Quantity and is showing an error message ''Inventory in the logistics area is not available'.

However, if you open Stock Overview it is showing that enough quantity is available.

1. Go to the Physical Inventory work center.
2. From the Common Task open Stock Overview.

Cause

When you are confirming any Supplier Return Pick task, system automatically selects 'Restricted' check box for the Logistics Area. It is designed like that, because normally when you get product from Supplier, you may want to mark product returns (e.g. damaged products) as 'Restricted' stock, in order to differentiate them from other products.

Even though, there is enough stock of the product available in the logistics area, this stock is not marked as 'Restricted' and that is why the system displays the above error.

Resolution

To confirm the task, de-select the 'Restricted' check box in the task confirmation screen and then you will be able to confirm it.

Please also note, that when the Logistics Use for the affected Logistics Area is defined as 'Storage' and in the corresponding Logistics Model for 'Goods Return Shipping' the Source Logistics Use is set as 'Restricted Stock', and as it is not hard constraint the system will allow the task to be confirmed but will show the following information messages:

'Logistics area XYZ is no recommended, some constraints not met' (XYZ represents the ID iof the logistics area).
'Logistics area defined with exception usage Storage'.
