2672490 - What is the risk of performing a Reindex

Symptom

What are the risks involved in performing a reindex.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Management

Resolution

The Candidate Search page uses the Solr indexes to search and display the Candidate results. The Solr indexes are created by querying the Candidate details from the database. These indexes are created separately in Solr servers. Whenever indexing is done, the actual data in the database remains intact and new set of data is created as Solr indexes.

There is ideally very little risk involved in re-indexing as the original data in the database does not get altered in any way. When the re-index runs the existing indexes are replaced. So, even if there is a failure in the process, the existing indexes remain as it is until we reschedule the complete re-index again.
