2683412 - ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed - Data Services

Symptom

  • Error:  CON-120404: |Data flow df_name OCI call <OCIServerAttach> for connection <(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = hostname )(PORT = NNNN)))(CONNECT_DATA =(SID=SID)))> failed: <ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed>.
  • Some Oracle sources fail with this error, some Oracle sources work.
  • If the sqlnet.ora file setting SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) is changed to SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE), then Oracle database is not accessible.
  • Changing the SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE) setting will not fix the issue.
