2685348 - What is the limit on the length of transaction names? - ASE

Symptom

  • Error 103 when entering a BEGIN TRANSACTION command with a transaction name longer than 30 characters.
  • Systransactions system table uses a varchar(255) for transaction names, suggesting longer names are possible.

    Example
    Msg 103, Level 15, State 40:
    Server 'ASE', Line 3:
    The transaction name that starts with 'a234567890123456789012345678901' is too
    long. Maximum length is 30.
