2687578 - How to Submit Tax Returns for Federal or Provincial Governments in Canada

Symptom

In Canada there are two levels of tax jurisdictions:

  1. Federal level where (GST/HST taxes) are submitted quarterly to the federal tax authority, Canada Revenue Agency.
  2. Provincial level where PST and/or QST are submitted monthly to each provincial government, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec.

You want to set up the SAP Business ByDesign system so your Tax Returns separates items due to be sent to the federal tax authority from those items that need to be sent to the provincial governments.

Resolution

  1. Create two different Tax Authorities.
-Tax Authority for Federal taxation purposes with Tax Return Arrangement as GST/HST Tax Return Type.
-Tax Authority for Provincial taxation purposes with Tax Return Arrangement as PST/QST Tax Return Type.
  2. Create and run two different Tax Return Run for each one of the Tax Return Arrangements above.
  3. Each Tax Return Run will create a Tax Return, one for Federal taxation purposes and one for Provincial taxation purposes.
