Symptom
When building the forecast, the following error is displayed:
"This forecast has ##### dimension nodes, which exceeds the maximum allowed (20,000). Please refine the forecast using the Set Dimensions tab"
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors Workforce Planning
Reproducing the Issue
1. Go to Analytics WFP and from the Planning tab go to > Strategic Forecasts
2. Select a Forecast
4. Select Edit Forecast
5. In the Set Dimensions tab try selecting many nodes from all Dimensions
5. Go to tab 6 - Build or save your query
6. Error prompts
Cause
Each node in a forecast is a row. The forecast multiples, or crossjoins, each node in each dimension tree, with every other node in every other dimension in the forecast.
Furthermore, to determine headcounts for retirements, each node combination is further cross-joined with the Age dimension to discover the headcount at each point for every age from 40 to 80.
Thus in the illustrated forecast the cube query involves eight dimensions.
This is the reason why the number of nodes increase.
Resolution
The 20,000 limit cannot be extended as this is in place to ensure that the forecast is manageable.
The tool is used for long term strategic forecasting over a long period into the future.
The purpose is for managers to enter expected demand figures into each cross-joined node or row.
Please consider how such planning will be carried out in practice, and arrange your forecast to align with the goal of entering demand figures at node combination. Discuss with managers at what level they can reasonably forecast their many years into the future.
