2694395 - Error 306: TEXT and IMAGE datatypes may not be used in a WHERE clause - SAP ASE

Symptom

Using a where clause with a 'LOB' datatype like text and image returns error 306:

  • ASE version before 15.7

Msg 306, Level 16, State 1
TEXT and IMAGE datatypes may not be used in a WHERE clause, except with the LIKE expression.

  •  ASE version 15.7 and above

Msg 306, Level 16, State 3:
TEXT, IMAGE and UNITEXT datatypes may not be used in a WHERE clause, except with the LIKE expression and IS [NOT] NULL predicate on columns.
