2695804 - Tomcat fails to start with error java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind

Symptom

  • Tomcat fails to start with the following error thrown in stderr.log:

    EVERE [main] org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService.initInternal Failed to initialize connector [Connector[HTTP/1.1-8080]]
    org.apache.catalina.LifecycleException: Failed to initialize component [Connector[HTTP/1.1-8080]]
    org.apache.catalina.LifecycleException: Protocol handler initialization failed

    java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind

  • It has been verified that the port mentioned is not already in use (using the command netstat)
  • The issue is not limited to Tomcat - the same error can happen for other BI Processes
