2696446 - SSCUI 'Define Output Format of Material Numbers' shows the error "Material number must not be longer than 18"

• Changing the product number length using SSCUI '102320 Define Output Format of Material Numbers' gives an error "Material number must not be longer than 18".
• Message 'The length of the old material number must not exceed 18 characters'
• Updating a Product through the Migration Cockpit object Product shows the error 'The length of the old material number must not exceed 18'
• When saving a Product in the Create Material or change Material app , a message appears with 'The length of the old material number must not exceed 18'
• When using the API  API API_PRODUCT_SRV to update a Product , it shows the error  'The length of the old material number must not exceed 18 characters'
• When using the API  API API_PRODUCT_SRV to update a Product , it shows the error  'Material number must not be longer than 18'

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open the App 'Manage your Solution'
2. Click on 'Configure Your Solution'
3. Search for the SSCUI '102320 Define Output Format of Material Numbers'
4. Click on the Configure button
5. input a material number length greater than 18 and save

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition currently does not support material number with more than 18 characters length. This is mentioned in the Configuration Help of the SSCUI

This maximum length cannot be exceeded through customizing ( SSCUI or through Expert Configuration )

With SAP S/4HANA On Premise since release 1511 material numbers of up to 40 characters is available and Supported but there is no plans to add this functionality to the scope of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

In SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition the maximum length 18 ( Compatibility Mode ) is set to allow for Integration with other systems ( Through Communication scenarios )  where material length of more than 18 characters is not possible.

Please use a Material Number or Old Material Number less then length of 18

Please use the Continous Influence Program ( https://www.sap.com/about/customer-involvement/influence-adopt.sap-continuous-influence.html ) to have the functionality enhanced to allow material number length greater than 18
