2701074 - You are not Able to Mark Only One Component for Supply to Production in a Production Model

Symptom

You have created a Production Model, which has multiple Input Products (or components). You want to enable only one of the Input Products for Supply to Production, but system is only allowing you to select either all or none.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Planning and Production Master Data work center.
  2. Select the Production Models view.
  3. Search for the relevant Production Model.
  4. Select the searched Production Model and select the Edit button.
  5. In the production model screen, select the tab Bill of Operations and the sub-tab Product Assignment. Then navigate to the relevant Activity to which you have assigned the Input Products.
  6. Here, you can see that Supply to Production is enabled for the Input Products. If you de-select Supply to Production for one of them, then the system de-selects for all the Input Products. Now, if you again select only one Input Product for Supply to Production, then the system automatically selects all the Input Products. So, it is not possible to assign only one Product for Supply to Production.

Cause

Selection/de-selection of the Input Products for Supply to Production happens at Line Item Group level. Since in this case all Input Products belong to same Line Item Group, system is allowing to select either all Input Products or none of them for Supply to Production.

Resolution

If you want to assign only one Product for Supply to Production, then you need to change the corresponding Bills of Material (BoM) accordingly and assign different line item Group IDs to the Input Products. To do so:

  1. Go to the Planning and Production Master Data work center.
  2. Select the Production Bills of Materials view.
  3. Search for the relevant Production Bills of Material.
  4. Select the searched BoM and choose the Edit button.
  5. In the Production BoM screen, select the tab Input Products. Here, you can see that the Input products are assigned to the same Line Item Group ID.
  6. Select any one of the Line Item and un-assign it from the relevant variant.
  7. Choose the Add Row button.
  8. Enter the Input Product which you have selected in step 6, in column Product ID.
  9. Maintain the Line Item Group ID for this product which is different than other Input Products.
  10. Maintain all other entries and choose Save button.
  11. After making all the changes, go back to the Production Model screen and choose the Input Product which you want to enable for Supply to Production.
  12. Note: You need to create a new Engineering Change Order (ECO) for step 10. Creation of ECO is not covered in this document.
