Symptom
While defining number ranges for purchase orders, you are getting following error:
Update from number SRMPO_PO_ECPO failed; interval is already in use
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
-
Goto Business Configuration work center
- Select fine tuning activity: Number Ranges for Operational Purchase Documents
- Select "Purchase Orders" under that
- Select and change the Begin Number and End Number
- Error encountered
Cause
Once the number range is already in use, system does not allow to change it to avoid number gaps and inconsistency. You can only set the current number within the End Number and not more than that.Hence, to avoid any inconsistency , we recommend to set the number range in the beginning itself when system is set up before any order is created.
Resolution
In your case, you can first change the end number as required e.g.XXX (XXX represents number range) and then change the current number which should be less than XXX. Then the new Purchase Order number will start from the next number(+1) i.e. XXX+1
You have to set the current number greater than the last created purchase order number in the system and it should be within end number range.
Note: Please remember once the purchase order is created with new number , you cannot again change the current number less than the latest order number
