Symptom
In the Job Information Portlet, on viewing or when clicking 'Edit' or 'History' the 'Manager' (Supervisor) field is not displaying the name of the user's Manager, the field is displaying the value is empty. In the Org Chart, the Manager displays correctly.

Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to Admin Centre > Search for a user
- Scroll to Job Information > Note 'Manager' field is empty
- Click 'Edit' > Field displays 'No Selection'
- Click on 'History' > If a Manager change was made the Managers name will display on the left hand panel in History, however on the right hand panel the Manager field is still empty
- Navigate to Succession Org Chart > Select the affected user > Manager of the user appears in the Org Chart correctly
Cause
This issue occurs when there is no Personal Information maintained for the Manager of the affected user. This is often seen when Employee Data Imports are not completed fully.
In Job Information, the name of the Manager in the 'Manager' field is pulled from their Personal Information record in Employee Central.
The reason they are displaying correctly in the Org Chart is because this feature takes the Employee Profile data of the Manager to display in Org Chart. If you do an employee export and search for this user, they will have name information, however if you navigate to their Employee Profile, the user does not have Name Information such as 'First Name' and 'Last Name' maintained in the 'Personal Information' portlet.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, you will need to add a Personal Information record to the Manager, adding First and Last name. The system will then be able to pick up the Personal Information record and insert it into the Job Information Manager field.
Note: Personal Information is an effective-dated entity. This means that when adding the Personal Information record, the record will only become active as of the date you have selected. i.e If you select the current date as the effective date of the record adding Name Information, then for a Job Information change that occurred in 2017 the Manager name will still not display in the 'Manager' field in the Job history record
Please take note of this when adding the Personal Information record.
