Symptom
When updating the default Date Format for a locale the following error is generated:
- Please report the following error to your system administrator:<number>.
Or, if your configuration setting reportStackTraceToUser within LMS_ADMIN (see KBA 2452616) is set to true, you will see the following error:
- Please report the following error to your system administrator: com.plateausystems.elms.util.helper.ElmsUpdateException: SQLException - updateI18nActiveLocaleDateFormatPatterns() failed.

Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Learning Administration >

Navigate to References >
-
Manage Labels >
-
Locales >
-
Select a locale >
-
Open in Edit mode >
-
Open Date Patterns tab >
-
Select the new Date Patten to be the default one >
-
Apply Changes >
-
Error is generated.
Resolution
Staying within the Date Patterns tab:
-
Select the Date Pattern which is causing the error and remove it >
-
Then add the same Date Pattern back in again under the 'Select the Date Pattern for the Active Locale' section >
-
Once it's added back, set it again to be the default.
