2708105 - Hive Remote Source Configuration does not work after upgrade to Hive 2.x.x - SAP Cloud Platform BDS

Symptom

  • After upgrading Apache Hive from 1.2.1 to 2.3.3 on SAP Cloud Platform Big Data Services, connecting a remote source using SDI Hive adapter does not work anymore
  • Depending on the connection settings (port=10000 or port=10010 or port=20000 or port=20010 or Hive Version=2.1.1 or Hive Version=2.3.3) for the remote source, you may receive one of below errors:

(Catalog) Error reading Remote Object: InternalError: dberror(CallableStatement.execute): 403 - internal error: Cannot get remote source objects: Cannot establish JDBC connection. Error: Could not open client transport with JDBC Uri: jdbc:hive2://hiveserver-<clientname>.s3s.altiscale.com:10010/<database_name>: Invalid status 21

(Catalog) Error reading Remote Object: InternalError: dberror(CallableStatement.execute): 403 - internal error: Cannot get remote source objects: Cannot establish JDBC connection. Error: Could not open client transport with JDBC Uri: jdbc:hive2://hiveserver-<clientname>.s3s.altiscale.com:20010/<database_name>: java.net.ConnectException: errno: 111 (Connection refused), error: Connection refused (local port 50304 to address 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:0, remote port 20010 to address 10.244.16.19 (hiveserver-<clientname>.s3s.altiscale.com))
