Symptom

Error when trying to mount a database:

mount database all from '/mount/sybase/data/databases_manifest'
go

Device activation error. PHYSNAME '/mount/sybase/data/device.dat' may be incorrect.

The ASE errorlog will report a message of a permissions problem

dopen: open '/mount/sybase/data/device.dat', Permission denied
udactivate: error starting virtual disk -1
