2717082 - The Error Message 'Serial ID is Invalid' is DIsplayed When Creating a Registered Product

Symptom

When creating a Registered Product, the following error message is displayed:

'Serial ID is invalid. Only the following values accepted – Alphanumeric, colon (:), hyphen (-), underscore (_), slash(/), backslash(\), dot(.)'

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Products work center.
  2. Select the Registered Products view.
  3. Select the New button.
  4. Maintain the necessary details including a Serial ID.
  5. Select the Save button.

The following error message is shown:

'Serial ID is invalid. Only the following values accepted – Alphanumeric, colon (:), hyphen (-), underscore (_), slash(/), backslash(\), dot(.)'

Cause

The Serial ID contains a special character (e.g. $, %, *, space or number that start with zero).

Resolution

Remove the special character and save the Registered Product.

The Registered Product Serial ID field value is alphanumeric and supports alphabetical characters A - Z, numbers 0 – 9, hyphen (-), underscore ( _ ), colon (:)

Any other characters other than the above mentioned are not supported. Currently this is the standard system behavior.
