2733352 - You Receive Error Message "Operation not possible; document locked by ZZZ"

You open a sales order and you receive error message "Operation not possible; document locked by ZZZ" (ZZZ represents the technical User ID).

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Navigate to the Sales Order workcenter.
2. Select the Sales Orders view.
3. Open Sales Order ABC (ABC represents the Sales Order ID).
4. Click on Release or Save.

You receive the error message "Operation not possible; document locked by ZZZ".

• This is a generic error message, suggesting that there is another process affecting the sales order.
• This can be caused by:
1. Two instances that are open and affect the same document (e.g. Mobile, Desktop or other user).
2. Internal processes that are scheduled such as a confirmation update run to update the sales order at this time.
3. PDI involvement. For example:
   if an Extension Field (KUT or PDI) is modified via a PDI Solution on the Sales Order. This triggers an update to customer demand which in turn will trigger a message back from customer demand to sales order.
   If this then triggers the PDI modification again, you will go into an endless loop.
• This can occur more frequently with sales orders that are bound to projects, as more internal processes are executed in this use case.

1. Try to execute the same function after some time.
2. If you receive the same error, then check if you have multiple windows open or you are accessing the sales order from another device.
3. Check if the Confirmation Update Run is scheduled and currently running. 
4. In case of PDI involvement you can identify the Extension Field that is being modified in the Changes tab of the Sales Order and you need to contact the Author of the PDI solution to check and correct the Add-On Logic to ensure that the modification will not run into an endless loop.
