2739211 - Error GUISupport.dll when trying to launch SAP Data Services Client - 14.2.11.2003

Symptom

After a fresh install of SAP Data Services Client Tools 14.2.11.2003 Designer will not launch. The error in Windows event viewer is as follows:

  • Faulting application name: AL_Designer.exe, version: 14.2.11.2003, time stamp: 0x5b8615c2
  • Faulting module name: GUISupport.dll, version: 14.2.11.2003, time stamp: 0x5b860b88
  • Exception code: 0xc0000005Fault offset: 0x00000000000f47e4
  • Faulting process ID: 0x1158
  • Faulting application start time: 0x01d4985c86245be0
  • Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\SBO\Data Services\bin\AL_Designer.exe
  • Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\SBO\Data Services\bin\GUISupport.dll

Uninstalling and reinstalling the product did not help.
