Symptom
You have maintained a 12 character length GTIN number in the Material Master, but when you preview or print the Delivery Note, the system is adding a checksum at the end of the barcode.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
-
Navigate to the Product and Service Portfolio work center.
-
Go to the Products view.
-
Find and select the product ABC (ABC represents the Product ID).
-
Click the Edit button and then on View All.
-
Go to the General tab and then to the UoM Characteristics subtab.
-
Under the GTIN column you can see that a 12 digit GTIN code is maintained.
-
Now navigate to the Outbound Logistics work center.
-
Go to the Outbound Deliveries view.
-
Find and select the relevant Outbound Delivery XYZ (XYZ represents the Outbound Delivery ID).
-
Click the Preview button to open the PDF document.
-
You can see the barcode of the Product ABC is displayed with 13 character length on the Delivery Note. The system has added a check digit at the end to make the code 13 character.
Cause
You are using an 'EAN13' type of barcode in your Delivery Note form template. 'EAN13' barcodes always add a checksum digit at the end. This is the standard behavior of 'EAN13' barcodes.
Resolution
For GTIN with 12, 13 and 14 digits, you can use a barcode type which does not add a check digit at the end of the barcode. In barcode type 'Code 128' for example, no checksum digit is added.
