Symptom
You are designing dashboards and when dragging characteristics from the Attributes section into dashboard filters, you see that filters takes effect in only one report tile. You would like to have it affecting all tiles in the dashboard, though.
Environment
SAP Cloud for Customer
Reproducing the Issue
-
Log into the system.
- Go to Business Analytics work center.
- Go to Design Dashboards view.
- Select any Dashboard.
- Open it in Edit mode.
- Drag the desired field from Attributes tab into one of the available Dashboard filters.
- Click on Save and Close.
- Repeat steps 1 to 4, if needed, and click in the Dashboard name this time, to open it in view mode.
- Apply a parameter to the Dashboard filter recently created in step 6.
- Click on Go to run the Dashboard with the applied filter.
- The filter is applied only to one of the Report tiles in the Dashboard, but you want it to be applied to all tiles.
Cause
This behavior occurs because you linked the field into only one of the Report tiles. When you drag and drop a given field XYZ (XYZ refers to the field name) from a report A (A refers to the report name) into Dashboard filters, what the system is doing is linking the field XYZ to the report A in the Dashboard filter box you chosen.
Resolution
If you have a common field in two or more Report tiles and would like to put them in single Dashboard filter to affect all the tiles, in the Attributes section you need to drag and drop this same field from each tile into the same filter box. Example is in the screenshot below.
Tip: You will see a number on the right side of the chosen field. As shown in the screenshot top left corner, (1) means it is linked to one tile, (2) means two tiles, and so on. You can also click on the Dashboard Connections icon, highlighted in yellow in the screenshot, to see the mapping of which report tile is linked to which filter.
