Symptom
- Unable to work at the same time on two instances that are hosted on the same data center/stack
- Unable to switch browser sessions between two SuccessFactors instances
- Even though you logout for the first session, once you login to the second without clearing the cache, it directs you to the first session
Environment
SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite
Reproducing the Issue
Scenario A: Without performing the logout of first session:
- Access one of your instances (e.g. performancemanagerX.successfactors.com/sf/start?company=ProdA)
- On the same browser, access a second instance (e.g. performancemanagerX.successfactors.com/sf/start?company=StageA)
- Notice that you are either:
- Logged out of the first instance
OR
- The session is overwritten by the second instance
OR - You remain in first instance
- Logged out of the first instance
Scenario B: Performing the logout of first session:
- Access one of your instances (e.g. performancemanagerX.successfactors.com/sf/start?company=ProdA)
- Logout of first tenant session
- On the same browser, access the second instance (e.g. performancemanagerX.successfactors.com/sf/start?company=StageA)
- Notice that you are redirected to the first session again (ProdA)
Cause
SAP SuccessFactors does not support simultaneous or change of environments that are hosted on the same data center/stack, as per the examples mentioned above. Trying to do so will result in inconsistent behavior and the outcome may vary between session intermixing, not being able to login into the second one and so on.
Resolution
For you to work on both at the same time and without conflicts, you will need to use two different browsers and/or the incognito mode. Alternatively, you can also use any other environments registered for your company that are hosted under different data center/stack and, therefore, can be accessed simultaneously.
A warning message has been introduced for the scenario A. It will be displayed to the end user when they have multiple sessions open in the same data center from the same browser.
Important Note: The login across multiple SuccessFactors instances in same data center in same browser, without clean log out by the end user, might appear to function as expected while using IDP-Initiated logon URLs from some IDPs (like IAS, for example). However, this can still cause session intermixing issues between the instances, and is strictly not recommended.
