2751736 - Spinlock contention on default data cache and high logical reads on sysattributes - SAP ASE

Symptom

Elevated engine utilization and spinlock contention on the default data cache can be seen in a specific case where the following are true

  • Very high connection rate, 1000+ per second
  • Usage of set_appcontext and get_appcontext

While set_appcontext and get_appcontext are not required for this issue, they add additional logical IO on the master..sysattributes table which is the object contributing to the spinlock contention.
