2764047 - DB6 SQL10007N Message "0" could not be retrieved. Reason code: "3

Symptom

  • strange combination of both New Client Connectivity (NCC) and Old Client Connectivity (OCC) on both Central Instance Application Server and Remote Application Servers

  • central instance application server
both Db2 runtime client software and CLI driver installed
          R3trans -d
successfully connects to local Db2 db running on this local central instance host
successfully loaded DB2 library '/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/global/db6/LINUXX86_64/db6_clidriver/lib64/libdb2.so'   * * * evidence thin (NCC) CLI driver being loaded from global (nfs mounted) directory
                . . .
Running with CLI runtime client libraries.    * * * this is evidence R3trans thinks it is using fat (OCC) runtime(locally loaded CLI driver is being used) ? ? ?

  • remote application server (customer had 3 remote app servers like this one appsrv1 - appsrv3)
both Db2 runtime client software and CLI driver installed
          R3trans -d
fails to connect to remote Db2 running on remote central instance host
                trans.log
DbSlConnectDB6( SQLConnect ): [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL10007N Message "0" could not be retrieved. Reason code: "3

  • remote application server (appsrv4)
only Db2 CLI driver is installed
          R3trans -d
fails to connect to remote Db2 running on remote central instance host
                trans.log

    *** ERROR => unable to load DB2 library '/usr/sap/EPR/SYS/global/db6/LINUXX86_64/db6_clidriver/lib64/libdb2.so'.
