Symptom

  • Performing an OS backup using Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
  • TSM backup is failing with:

 ANS3008E Too many symbolic links were detected while resolving name '/home/dump/dump1/patch_SP137/ASE15_7_SP137/shared/JRE-7_0_SR2_32BIT/bin/javaws

  • ls -l shows a symbolic link:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 sybase sybase 13 Mar 06 2018 /home/dump/dump1/patch_SP137/ASE15_7_SP137/shared/JRE-7_0_SR2_64BIT/bin/javaws -> ../bin/javaws
