Symptom
Supervised Mentoring programs can sometimes run into performance issues when loading tabs, editing or matching, depending on the amount of participants.
- How many participants can I have in a Supervised Mentoring program?
- What can cause performance issues with Supervised Mentoring?
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Mentoring
- SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning
Reproducing the Issue
Mentoring was originally created as a tool with high-touch small group programs in mind, such as a high potential or trainee groups. Therefore the system-generated/ admin-edit matching type called “Supervised Matching,“ is designed for numbers of up to about 120 participants. However, customers are using this type whenever they want to avoid any administrative tasks for mentors (to approve mentee requests) and not necessarily because they want admins to review all matches. Customers have therefore been using Supervised matching for launching programs to hundreds of employees.
With the 1905 release we are making substantial improvements to stabilize the feature. However, there are still certain recommended parameters within which it should be used.
Resolution
While it is possible to use Supervised programs with more than the recommended amounts, your own configuration will play a role in the stability and performance of the feature.
For example, when launching/ creating programs above the recommendations and using a lot of matching criteria/ custom picklists, this will impact the performance of the feature and can lead to longer loading times and/or no data being retrieved.
With each successive release we will be improving Mentoring so that it becomes as flexible as the demands of our customer's business requirements.
Note: when reviewing the Matching page, there is a limit to the amount of users you can view. The page will adopt a 'lazy loading' whereby only 20 users at a time will load. You can add up to 200 users in total. If you wish to get further data on users - for programs with over 200 participants - you will need to use Ad Hoc to report on this.
