2785293 - Length of Custom Field cannot be changed

Symptom

When editing a Custom Field, the length field is greyed out and cannot be changed

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition Custom Fields and Logic App

Resolution

  • Increasing the length of custom fields is only allowed for fields of type Text, Code List, Email Address, Web Address, Number
  • For all other field types increasing the length would lead to either data corruption or potentially long conversion times in cases where there is a large amount of data stored in the affected database tables
  • SAP Product Development will enhance the product documentation with future releases to document this restriction
  • As a workaround, if the field in question has never been transported, the field could be deleted and recreated with the correct length
  • When you publish a field with a certain length, you can't decrease the field length later on.
