2787578 - Running a HANA view fails with error "User _SYS_REPO is not allowed to grant privilege SELECT for TABLE"

Symptom

  • You run a calculation view in the SQL editor and get the following error:

Could not execute 'select * from "_SYS_BIC"."<package>/<view_name>"'
SAP DBTech JDBC: [258]: insufficient privilege: Not authorized: line 1 col 26 (at pos 25)

  • And a data preview on the calculation view shows the error "Data Preview is not possible; object is either inactive or broken. If it is an inactive object, activate it, else redeploy.":

  • You collect an authorization trace as per SAP Note 1809199 and the indexserver trace file prints entries like these:

User _SYS_REPO is not allowed to grant privilege SELECT for TABLE <schema>.<table_name>
User <USER> is not authorized to use VIEW _SYS_BIC.<package>/<view_name> because of missing grantable privileges on underlying objects
