2788107 - Formula in Workflow Rule


You have created a workflow rule of 'Update Type' as 'Formula' for field XYZ , but the workflow rule does not work and the formula does not calculate the value for field XYZ.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Administrator workcenter.
  2. Go to Workflow Rules view.
  3. Open the workflow rule ABC(where ABC is an existing inactive workflow rule).
  4. Click on Next until you reach Step 3 - Define Actions.
  5. Here the Rule type is 'Field update'.
  6. Click on Add and for 'Field' select XYZ(where XYZ is a field), for 'Update Type' select 'Formula'.
  7. Define the formula and Save the changes.
  8. Click on Next and Activate the workflow rule.

   You can see from the workflow log that ABC is executed successfully still the value for XYZ is not calculated as per the formula and is empty.


This is because the result of the formula gave a 'negative' value.We don't update any 'negative' value via formula update.


The rule will not update the value if the result of formula is 'negative'.This is the expected system behavior.
