• Prerequisites:
• You have created and downloaded an Electronic Financial statement XBRL file for Germany via an Electronic Financial Statement Run.
• You have installed the latest version of the SAP ERP client for E-Bilanz (ERiC Version 27.7.4.0) for Microsoft Excel which you can download from the Download Center in the Work Center Application and User Management.
• You have opened the Excel template for E-Bilanz for 2017 and above which you can download from the Microsoft Office Form templates in the Work Center Application and User Management.

1. Open Microsoft Excel.
2. Open the Excel template for E-Bilanz for 2017.
3. Go to the SAP ERP Client for E-Bilanz tab.
4. Click Import XBRL-Datei (import XBRL file) and select the XBRL file you created with the Electronic Financial Statement Run for Germany.
5. Press Validierung (Validation).

You get an Error Message in german language: 'Allgemeiner Fehler im Arbeitsbuch. Lesen der Kontext Daten aus Excelvorlage fehlgeschlagen. Die Datei ist unvollständig. Verwenden Sie eine offizielle Excel Vorlage. Zelle hat nicht das erwartete Format. Erwartetes Format in Zelle Stammdaten E79: Datum.'

Translation of the Error Message: 'General Error in workbook. Reading of context data from Excel Template failed. The file is incomplete. Use an official Excel Template. Cell has not the expected format. Expected format in cell master data E79: date.'

Some data is missing in the subtab 'Stammdaten' (Master Data) and subtab 'Bilanz' (Balance Sheet). Maintain the missing data.

Make sure the following fields are filled and always use column H for manual entry of data ('manuelle Eingabe' in german):

1. In row H79, select a date for the beginning of the Fiscal Year. Make sure you use the correct format - either enter a dot (.) or a slash (/).
2. In row H80, select a date for the end of the Fiscal Year. 
3. In row H81, select a date for the Balance Sheet key date (usually equal to the date of the end of the Fiscal Year).
4. Press Validierung again.

You will receive an error message: 'Die 4stellige Bundesfinanzamtsnummer muss in den Stammdaten eingegeben werden' ('the 4digit Tax Authority ID has to be entered into the master data').

1. In row H148, enter the four digit Tax Authority ID ('Bundesfinanzamtsnummer').
2. In row H146, enter the thirteen digit tax ID ('Steuernummer'). The first four digits of this tax ID are the same than the four digits of the Tax Authority ID.
3. Press Validierung.

You will receive now dozens of error messages. To resolve them:

1. In row H32, 'GuV' (profit and loss statement) select 'X'.
2. In row H59, 'Bilanzierungsstandard' (balance sheet standard) select 'deutsches Handelsrecht (sog. Einheitsbilanz)' (german trade law, standard balance sheet)
3. Press Validierung.

You will now receive several error messages concerning 'Straße, Postleitzahl, Ort and Name des Unternehmens' (Street, Postcode, City and name of the company).

1. You need to maintain the corresponding information in rows H140, H142, H143 and H85.
2. After that you select Validierung again.

You get a last error message: 'Die Angabe zu Jahresüberschuss/fehlbetrag entspricht nicht dem aufgrund der Angaben im Bereich Bilanz erwarteten Wert.' (The yearly gain/loss is not the same amount than the value expected in the Balance Sheet).

1. Switch to the tab 'Bilanz' (Balance Sheet).
2. In row H667, ('Jahresüberschuss/fehlbetrag') maintain the amount mentioned in the last Error Message with a negative prefix (for example -1.000,00 EUR).
3. In row H656, ('Gewinn/Verlustvortrag') maintain the same amount mentioned in the last error message but with a positive prefix (for example +1.000,00 EUR). This action balances the amount on the balance sheet.
4. Press Validierung.

You can see the message 'Dokument wurde erfolgreich validiert'. (Document has been validated successfully).
