2794421 - Inbound and Outbound E-mail Size Limit

Symptom

You would like to understand the size limits for e-mails received and sent via a service ticket.

Environment

  • SAP Cloud for Customer
  • SAP Service Cloud
  • SAP Sales Cloud

Resolution

  • As of release 2111, the e-mail communication channels now allow total size for inbound and outbound e-mail messages up to 35 megabytes.
    • The total size could consist or include data such as:
      • E-mail Body;
      • Attachments;
      • Fonts & Design;
      • Text;
      • Any additional aspect that will compose the e-mails itself;
  • E-mails which have more than 35MB may experience performance issues and experience issues within the system, causing it to fail and be displayed in the Web Service Message Monitoring tool as erroneous.
  • Please note that:
    • If the E-Mail is being rejected at our infrastructure side, there is no message displayed in the Web Service Message Monitoring tool.
    • However, you receive an undeliverable response with the message ''5.1.0 - Unknown address error 552-'size limit exceeded''.
    • These e-mail size parameters mentioned in this document are set by standard and cannot be changed. Such decision is to keep the performance of the cloud servers in optimal state.
    • Single attachments cannot exceed 20 megabytes per KBA 3135011
    • When you send an email attachment, the attachment has to be encoded as text. As a result of this encoding process, there is an estimated 1/3 increase in the size of the file.
