Symptom
What is the logic controlling the way images are cropped automatically in the image components in CSB.
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Marketing (RMK) - All versions
- Career Site Builder
Cause
Each image component has its own guidelines as to the resolution and size which should be used for optimal display. See section of the CSB Implementation Guide: Image Recommendations for Career Site Builder.
Resolution
Note however that images will be automatically cropped. The images need to fit and fill all the responsive sizes that are available. On a typical install a client will use the same component and expect it to responsively fit the screen size appropriately (mobile, tablet, and desktop). They will also expect the component to fit a site that is positioned centered or full width (producing a larger picture). The desktop view will also take into consideration the monitor screen resolution as this will also determine the size of the picture displayed (screen resolutions of 1080p or 2160p will produce larger pictures). Because images scale up or down to fit different browser widths, they don't have exact dimensions (like 750px × 500px), but will always be the same shape and part of the image will be cropped to fit the aspect ratios.
To control this behaviour most image components offer the option to select the Image Position. This determines which section of the image is the focal point when the image is resized for responsive sites. For example, if the image features a person, you can choose an Image Position that ensure that person's face always remains in the image.
Also note that for the Three Column Images with Caption component, this option is only offered for the background image (found under Styles). Changing this behaviour would constitute en enhancement. Please see KBA below for the process to submit enhancements to the product.
