2819978 - Field shows ID and no description in a report

You run a report and you notice some fields shows ID and no description.

• SAP Business ByDesign
• SAP Cloud for Customer

1. Go to the Business Analytics work center.
2. Go to the Design Report view.
3. Run the report.
4. From the field setting choose show ID and Description.

You notice the field shows ID and no description. Alternatively, the "ID and Description" setting may be missing and only the ID option can be selected in the settings.

This can happen on a cloud data source or PDI data source if the field description was not maintained.

Another cause might be if the particular field is an extension field of type Text. Such fields do not have ID and description, but only text entries.

In a cloud data source you have to maintain Referencing Data Source and Referencing Data Source Key Field:

1. Go to the Business Analytics work center.
2. Go to the Design data source view.
3. find the cloud data source.
4. Click Edit.

For the respective field maintained the columns Referencing Data Source and Referencing Data Source Key Field.

In a PDI data source you have to maintain the description in the studio.

If it's a Text extension field, it is not possible to show ID and description in reports. You can create another extension field with a different type which shows an ID and a description.
