2822017 - Error Message: "Cost Object Type is Used. Setting Sales Document Cannot be Changed"

You want to deactivate sales document option for Cost object type Z1 (Z1 is the Cost object type ID) in business configuration.

You get the following error messages:

"Cost Object Type Z1 is used. Setting Sales Document cannot be changed

Used Cost Object Types were deleted/changed. Save failed.

Save failed"

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to the Cost and Revenue work center.
2. Go to the Free Cost Objects view.
3. Search for Cost Object ABC (ABC is the cost object ID) and select it.
4. Click Edit.

The Cost Object Type is Z1 - <Z1>.

The Sales Document option is activated.

1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
2. Go to the Overview view.
3. Search and select the Cost Object Types Activity.
4. Click on the activity to open the same.
5. Search and select Cost Object Type Z1.

Under Details, Sales Document box is checked.

6. Uncheck the box.
7. Click Save.

The error messages are as follows:

"Cost Object Type Z1 is used. Setting Sales Document cannot be changed

Used Cost Object Types were deleted/changed. Save failed.

Save failed"

1. Go to the Cost and Revenue work center.
2. Go to the Free Cost Objects view.
3. Search for Cost Object Type Z1.

There are e.g two Cost Objects ABC and DEF (DEF is another cost object ID).

While creating the Cost object type Z1 in business configuration you have checked the sales document box. After this you created the free cost objects ABC and DEF with Cost Object Type Z1.

Once cost objects have been created for this cost object type Z1, it is not able to remove the sales document assignment.

While creating the cost object in business configuration you need to make sure that the sales document box is unchecked.

Check the box only if you plan to assign sales documents to the same.

If no postings have been made for the free cost objects and if they are not required anymore in their current state, these cost objects can be deleted from the backend.

Once the cost objects are deleted, the cost object type can be edited.
